Swansea HPC

In association with the Welsh Sports Council, British Triathlon runs a High Performance Centre out of the Wales National Pool in Swansea. The centre is run by Head Coach Chris Jones and is assisted by Rick Velati. The centre also forms the hub for the Triathlon Wales's regional World Class Start & Potential programme.

The HPC also makes use of the facilities at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, the outdoor velodrome in Cardiff and the Welsh National Velodrome in Newport.

Swansea is presently home to some of the best triathletes in the world. ITU world champion 2002 Leanda Cave, Olympian Marc Jenkins and the rising star of British Triathlon Helen Tucker.

Swim – Sessions take place in the 50m pool at Wales National Pool. There is also a 25m pool within the same building. Sports science support is also available on poolside in a dedicated facility. The centre has forged strong links with Welsh Swimming and Swim Swansea with some of the athletes training with their performance squads.

Bike – The environment in and around Swansea is first class for cycling with varied terrain including some big climbs in the South Wales valleys. On the doorstep is also some of the finest Mountain Biking in Britain at Afan Argoed including the Skyline 42km loop.

Run – As with the bike the terrain and facilities in and around Swansea provide for a world-class training environment. A 400m track and an indoor training centre at the pool. There are also kilometres of pathway around Swansea Bay and inland some hilly runs and trails at Afan Argoed
